Any gamer knows that having the right controller can mean the difference between a good gaming experience and a bad one. With a market full of brands, features, and options, does Gamesir’s new Super Nova have what it takes to stay competitive?
Priced at a very reasonable $44.99 and available in Whipped Pink and Nightfall Blue colour options (my unit being the latter), Gamesir immediately undercuts the competition—not just in price, but also in aesthetics. The blue-to-black gradient faceplate on my review unit quickly won me over, not only because blue is one of my favourite colours, but also because it stands out from the solid-colour controllers that dominate the market.

Looking closer at the Gamesir Super Nova, the controller features dual RGB strips that run from the lower midsection to the top corners. When the controller is off, the strips are so subtly designed and incorporated that they’re barely noticeable. However, the RGB strips are only the tip of the iceberg when exploring this controller. Gamesir has also incorporated Hall Effect analog triggers and sticks into the Super Nova, delivering precise movements and controls while gaming. These components significantly improve the controller’s durability by preventing stick drift and other issues typically found in

One standout feature, which I haven’t seen on other controllers, involves the triggers. Gamesir has built toggle switches into each trigger, allowing users to adjust between short or longer pulls depending on their needs. This feature was a highlight for me, as I could precisely control braking and throttle in racing games while quickly switching to shorter pulls for games where rapid firing is essential.
Additionally, the Super Nova is the first controller I’ve encountered in this price range to include an internal gyroscope. This offers a unique way to play compatible games, and it’s a feature I’d like to see more companies adopt. I found it particularly useful while playing Mario Kart 8 on my Nintendo Switch, though I imagine it could enhance the experience in many other titles as well.

System compatibility is another area where Gamesir stands out, offering customers more than many competitors. The Super Nova not only works on PC, Android, and iOS, but it can also pair seamlessly with the Nintendo Switch and other home consoles. Switching between systems is quick and easy, making it ideal for times when I want to play games at a friend’s house, where spare controllers may not be available or are already in use by other players.
In terms of connectivity, users have several options depending on their needs or system requirements. I primarily used the controller in Bluetooth mode to minimize cable usage and maintain a cleaner setup. However, users can also choose the included wireless USB dongle or the USB-A to USB-C cable provided in the box. I was pleased to see both options included, especially at a time when many companies are reducing the number of accessories bundled with their products.
Gamesir also includes a wireless charging dock in the box, which not only recharges the controller’s battery when needed but also serves as a stylish display stand. The dock features light strips that illuminate while the Super Nova is charging, adding a sleek visual element. This is a thoughtful addition and not something I’ve seen offered by many well-known competitors in the market.

During my time gaming with the Gamesir Super Nova, I found the overall experience to be one of the best I’ve had with a controller. Previous controllers from various brands either didn’t fit my small-to-medium-sized hands well or weren’t comfortable for extended gaming sessions. Gamesir raises the bar by crafting a controller that fits my hands superbly and includes rubberized grip pads where my hands rest, significantly enhancing comfort during long sessions.
“At just $44.99, the Gamesir Super Nova offers features and performance typically reserved for higher-priced controllers, making it an incredible bargain.”
For those who enjoy customizing their controllers, Gamesir has you covered. The Super Nova’s faceplates and ABXY buttons are easily removable, allowing users to personalize the controller to their liking. While I personally enjoyed the existing design and colours, I did swap the button layout to a more traditional Nintendo configuration, which made my gaming experience even more enjoyable.
Gamesir has created an exceptional controller with the Super Nova, surpassing many competitors by offering high-end features and customizability that are rare in this price range. At just $44.99, the Super Nova is an incredible bargain and easily worth every dollar. I have no doubt users will get years of enjoyment from it. I will certainly be purchasing more of these controllers for gaming nights with friends or family—not only for their comfort but also for the impressive feature set they offer.
