Aerosoft Truck and Bus System Review

If you’re like me, driving games are a lot of fun, but relying on a keyboard or game controller doesn’t quite deliver the full experience. Using a steering wheel and pedals makes it feel like you’re actually driving, enhancing immersion while playing. Aerosoft has recently developed a Truck and Bus system that takes driving games to the next level with numerous controls and buttons that truly make you feel as if you’re operating a large vehicle, such as a dump truck or transport truck. We’ll dig into all the details throughout this review.

Having previously used a high-end Logitech wheel setup designed for racing games, I can say Aerosoft has tailored its system specifically for titles like American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator. Racing fans won’t find paddle shifters or a sporty-looking wheel and pedals here. Instead, the package includes industrial, heavy-duty hardware that looks as if it came straight out of a Peterbilt truck.

Starting with the wheel unit, Aerosoft has incorporated a much larger-than-average racing wheel with a knob for those tight turns and manoeuvres that require quick, substantial steering, such as backing into a loading dock in trucking games. The centre of the wheel features a large horn button, similar to what you’d find in real-world trucks, along with an analog stick, D-pad, ABXY buttons, and other programmable buttons. These can be customized for a wide range of functions, making your overall experience behind the wheel more convenient.

“The ignition switch, light controls, turn signals, and retarder lever behind the wheel work together to make driving a big rig feel incredibly realistic.”

Aerosoft has really raised the bar when it comes to realism. They’ve added an ignition switch, light controls, turn signals and even a retarder lever that’s conveniently placed right behind the wheel. These features work together to create a super immersive experience, making driving a big rig feel incredibly realistic. It really feels like you’re driving a real truck, which makes the whole gaming experience way more of an experience.

Moving on to the shifter and control console, Aerosoft has designed it to include standard controls such as cruise control, four-way flashers, fog lights, and more, all available at the touch of a button. These functions even light up when selected and in use. The console features a total of 14 programmable buttons, eight of which can be customized with user-defined labels. This allows for precise tuning to suit specific tasks, such as operating a snowplow with lights and plow/salter functions or a tow truck with multiple buttons for different lights and controls.

The shifter itself is sturdy and can be programmed to support various driving modes and transmission styles, including a range selector knob for high and low gears, as seen in large trucks. Aerosoft has also included a splitter selector switch and even a mounting point for a phone or tablet to enhance functionality. While I could not fully master the intricacies of operating a truck with all the gearing required—despite being a truck driver myself—more experienced truckers should have no difficulty jumping into games and feeling minimal difference compared to real-world driving.

“Aerosoft’s pedal setup mimics the rugged feel of real trucks, featuring exponential compression on the brake pedal to simulate real-world braking force.”

Unlike the sportier pedal setups found in traditional racing wheel configurations, Aerosoft’s pedal setup is made of black plastic, reminiscent of those found in conventional trucks on the highway. The brake pedal features exponential compression force to simulate the real braking force required to drive a large truck. Additionally, the base of the pedals has a diamond plate-like appearance, which adds a rugged, industrial feel to the overall package.

While the initial setup time will vary depending on the game you play and how much you want to customize the tuning and functionality, it is a crucial step to ensure the best overall experience. Aerosoft even boldly recommends on the box that you update the wheel with their software before using it. Setup is fairly straightforward if you know what you’re doing.

Aerosoft Truck and Bus System Review

Once set up, I was blown away by the overall experience this system delivered. While I opted for an easier transmission gearing setup to avoid frustration, having the ability to mimic a wide range of truck configurations was incredible. Being able to control basic functions such as lights, signals, and other traditional truck features—all at the tip of my fingers or the touch of a button—made me feel as though I was truly behind the wheel of a truck.

I had a blast with my new gaming setup. The realism it provides is incredible, and it totally blew me away. I’ve never experienced anything like it. It made playing my favourite games, like Truck Simulator or Farming Simulator, felt like a whole new level of immersion. Now that I’ve experienced this enhanced gameplay, the idea of reverting to a more “normal” gaming setup feels daunting, especially given the types of games I enjoy that thrive on such immersive technology. This new level of engagement has set a high bar for my future gaming experiences.

Unlike most wheel setups on the market, the Aerosoft Truck and Bus system is not cheap. Priced at around $350, it is undoubtedly a significant investment, especially with other options available. However, no setup I’ve encountered comes close to the level of immersion and realism offered by Aerosoft. If you have the budget and want the best available, I don’t think you’ll find much better than this—short of installing a full-blown simulator in your room or gaming space.
